
Grounding in a yoga pose is the foundation of the pose. Standing with balanced alignment is a fundamental teaching to any yoga posture. The positioning of the feet affects the joints above, including the ankles, knees and hips as well as all the associated effects on our posture.
The benefits of grounding include:
Helps us use true north in our alignment of the poses
Allows us to connect to earth (no shoes please!)
Helps us to stand on one leg in our standing balance poses
Helps us to stretch i.e. when the sit bones are grounded in a seated pose we are able to find a deeper stretch in the hamstrings
Grounding =connection, focus, stability, balance and achievement
